Classic South: 13 Days througth the South-West of Madagascar

         

 Explore the diverse and fascinating region of southern Madagascar, where you will find a mix of cultures and amazing wildlife. See lively villages, dry landscapes, and lush greenery as you travel. From the coast to places like Ranomafana, each spot has something special to offer. This memorable trip is a chance to discover unique cultures and stunning nature.

Day 1: In-Tana: Arrival day

Upon arrival at Ivato Airport, proceed with necessary formalities and currency exchange before being transferred directly to your hotel.

Day 2: Tana-Tulear (by flight): From the Capital to the south of Madagascar

Prepare to board your flight bound for Tulear in the southern region of Madagascar. Upon arrival, pick you up in the National Airport of Tulear and transfert you directly to Ifaty.

Day 3: Ifaty: mother’s forest

To start the journey,  visit the Reniala spiny forest which the best place to spot different species of birds, endemic turtles and many other reptiles. About the flora, the Baobab is one of the tree that makes this park famous. After the visit, you are free till the end of this day.

Day 4: Ifaty-Ranohira: Saphir rush

On the way to Ranohira, you will pass through villages where Saphir trade is a daily life .Once in Ranohira, get your camera ready for a breathtaking scenery of the window of Isalo, catch the sunset in this unique place.

Day 5: Ranohira: Isalo National Park

This day is only for the visit of the Isalo National Park that present a sumptuous and unique landscape in Madagascar. Take a walk in this Jurassic decor and discover the different natural swimming pool and waterfall present in this park without missing the wildlife.

Day 6: Ranohira-Ambalavao: Classic south

Leaving Ranohira in the morning to join the city of Ambalavao, before entering the city do not forget to make a detour in a local reserve own by the local people that is called« Anja », this reserve is the best place to spot the ring-tailed Lemur also known as lemur Catta.

In the same city, a visit to the Paper Antemero is a must. This place offers a unique experience, mixing history, art and culture. Located in the heart of the city, it offers a variety of fascinating exhibits and cultural events that are worth exploring.

 

Day 7: Ambalavao-Ranomafana: Variation of decor

Before quitting Ambalavao do not forget to visit the silk factory. Once in way to Ranomafana you will directly notice the change of the semi arid vegetation into a lush greenery. After the transfer to the hotel, get ready for a Night walk with a local guide, specialist in nocturnal wildlife.

Day 8: Ranomafana: rainforest’s wonders

Ranomafana National Park is the second-biggest rainforest of Madagascar that shelter many species of lemur such as the Golden bamboo lemur and red-bellied lemur. This park is also rich about flora, that present different varieties of Orchid. The visit take 4 hour, to compensate this, relax in hotel for the half of the day and preparing to take the road again the day after.

Day 9: Ranomafana-Antsirabe: Art and Culture

Departing from Ranomafana in the morning en route to Antsirabe, with a stop in Ambositra, renowned as the « Capital of Malagasy art » , this is a chance to explore workshops crafting Malagasy handcrafted art. Overnight in Antsirabe.

Day 10: Antsirabe-Morondava: journey through the NR34 and NR35

Quitting Antsirabe early in the morning and taking the NR34 (south-west part) to join Morondova. In the road, admire the scenery and the daily life of local people.

Day 11: Morondava: Meeting the giants of Madagascar

Early in the morning, out the city of Morondava, a beautiful scene of sunrise is waiting for in the Baobab avenue, enjoy this aweking of nature among those giants. After this visit, go back to Morondava and take a look of the typical day of local people. In the afternoon, coming back in the Baobab avenue to catch the sunset and the famous picture of the sunset in Baobab avenue.

Day 12: Morondava-Antsirabe: back to Antsirabe

On the way back to Antsirabe, do not forget to pass in the Gold mine of Dabolava, mining in the old way.

Day 13: Antsirabe-Tana: Drive up

Leaving Antsirabe in the Morning to join Tana and take your internaional flight.
